Web 2.0 Awards List: Cocktails anyone?

Haha, the first thing i found on this website was in "Fun stuff". It's something called a cocktail builder! You type in all the "ingredients"(vodka, rum etc.) you have a home and it tells you all the cocktails you can make with those things. Pretty awesome hey! And there was this other one called "one sentence" which was a bit interesting. You can tell an ordinary everyday story in one sentence. Some are very well thought out, others are a bit on the strange side (where do they find these people?) It's a good idea, all those sites about different subjects on one particular easy to use directory. Could be very helpful if we had a directory with all the most used websites or answers to the most frequently asked questions.

Zoho Writer,

The way i figure it, Zoho Writer is like an upgraded internet version of microsoft word. While it may suit some people to have the "share" option, usually what i'm writing isn't particularly interesting. For example i don't really see why anyone would want to read a copy of my resume or a letter of application. I spose you could get pointers on what to write on your own resume, but what if mine's rubbish? If i was a writer with some awesome novels or screen plays that i wanted to get published this would be a good way to get your stories out there for the world to see. You never know, maybe you'll cop a sweet deal from a publisher...

Web 2.0, Library 2.0: Little bit confused...

So, i was reading through the perspectives on this Library 2.0. and i do actually have a few thought on those perspectives. You may not agree with them, but as i said, just a few random thoughts that popped into my head while reading this newsleter (some perhaps should have stayed in my head and never spoken out loud...).
The first one i looked at was "Away from the icebergs" by Rick Anderson. Now to me this set a pretty high bench mark because honestly i expected these to be a bit on the boring side... Ahem.
Now i think Rick has some valid points, for example when he says that if the patrons are having problems with a service perhaps we should change the service to suit our patrons? Not a bad idea! Though i did find the boat metaphor a bit strange... are we going to hit an iceberg? Titanic anyone?
The next one was "To a temporary place in time" by Dr Wendy Shultz. Let me just say, very strange. Are the big words in there supossed to confuse me? Or was that just a happy by-product? And was it just me or did we as the library staff, in particular the Librarians, almost get promoted to a god-like status? Not complaining, just an observation. Lots of touchy-feely stuff in there, and who is Chad and Miller?
And last but not least "To more powerful ways to cooperate" by Chip Nilges (Awesome name!) This one i didn't understand one bit of except who is OCLC or what is it?
Honestly couldn't be bothered to find answers to any of those questions because i'm having a lazy day, but hey maybe later.

Wikis: Friend or Foe?

Wikis are a bit of a strange subject for me. When i was doing the Library Tech's Course, they told us not to use wikis as a source of information as anyone can go on and add anything they like about any subject. For example, i could go on and say that i am a scientist and i've just discovered that there are 20 planets in the solar system and make up some names for them. What if a student copies that into an assignment? On the other hand you can access up to date information without having to wait for the next edition of Britannica to be published. Hmm, very difficult to decide. Friend or Foe?

Technorati

Had a look at it, but i don't really want to put my blog on there for everyone to find! Lets make it really difficult if they want to look at it! Haha. It's a bit like hide and seek....

Rollyo & Library Thing

Well, I made a Rollyo gadget(?) if that's what you call them. Haven't had time to try searching on it yet, but it's there! Library Thing was a bit of fun, will have to go back later on and add some more books to my page. I know i'm not really doing these in order, but hey, i figure as long as i'm getting them done sometime then yay me! Haha. The only problem with Library Thing is that i can't remember all the books that i have and what i've read!

del.icio.us hey?!

Well i've been exploring this del.icio.us bookmarking website and it's pretty cool really. You can find out which of the websites are favourites to how many people. Though while i was looking at the one that learning 2.0 set up(PLCMCL2), i was flicking through the bookmarks they have on there and it may just be me but i found the cartoon bookmark very strange..... as i said it may just be me but the "humor" was just a bit dark for my liking. Too much blood and swearing and what they were talking about wasn't funny. But hey, may just be me and my "weird" sense of humor...

Bloglines???

Well, seem to be having a bit of trouble with this one. It won't let me choose which ones i want to subscribe to at the moment. I'll try again later. Hopefully with better luck next time (or maybe more enthusiasm and less tiredness...)
